I love to read, but during the school year I find myself so busy that I don’t have the time to sit down with a good book, even on the weekends. I mostly find the time to read over the summer, and this year, during quarantine. I have read three books over the past few months while being quarantined, and they were all great. Here are my summer reading recommendations for those of you looking for a good book.
Someone We Know by Shari Lapena
This book was the first one I read during quarantine, and I finished it within a few days because it is a page-turner. A woman in the neighborhood is found dead and through finding out who the killer is, all of the neighbors’ secrets come out. There are so many suspects, and when the killer is revealed, it will definitely surprise you. This book is a classic ‘whodunnit’ that you won’t be able to put down.
One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
One of Us is Lying is a very popular young adult novel that centers around a group of high schoolers that all get detention together, but one of them ends up dead by the end of the hour. Throughout the book, fingers are pointed at everyone and the students that were in detention become bonded through the fact that they are all suspects. This book is like a modern-day Breakfast Club with a twist, and it’s so popular that it is soon to become a TV series. However, the book is always better than the movie or TV show, so I highly recommend reading it first.
Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
I first wanted to read this book because of the popularity Rachel Hollis has gained in the past few years and I saw the book cover all over social media. This is a self-help book with each chapter titled as a lie that you may tell yourself, and then within the chapter Hollis tells a personal story: how she overcame obstacles in her own life, and how you can too. Overall, this book is really inspiring and anyone that reads it will be sure to finish it with a new perspective.
