The fourth membership spotlight of the spring semester is Haniya Shariff, a junior majoring in public relations. This is Haniya’s first year as a member of PRSSA and she is an extremely committed member of our chapter. Haniya can often be found attending PRSSA agency tours and bonding with other members!
Here is a Q&A session with Haniya:
Q: Where are you from? What is your major/minor?
A: Bucks County, PA. Public Relations with a Media Studies & Production minor.
Q: Why do you love PRSSA? What do you hope to get out of it?
A: I love PRSSA because the members come in with such positive energy. It’s clear that everyone is supportive of each other. PRSSA also teaches me something new during every meeting! I hope to foster many connections and learn what it takes to become a PR pro.
Q: What committee are you a part of? What have you done with this committee?
A: Originally, I was part of the public relations committee, where I learned what makes a press release eye-catching and credible. Now I’m on the Regional Conference committee; I look forward to contributing to the success of this event by working on our social media!
Q: What PRSSA events have you participated in?
A: I’ve attended some fun mentor/mentee events such as the Halloween and Christmas parties, as well as study sessions. I try to attend the agency tours as well because they provide excellent career advice when it comes to experience and internships. I’ve also written a blog post for Devine + Partners, an agency whose tour reminded me why PR is the path for me!
Q: What other TU organizations are you a part of?
A: Previously, I was a co-producer for Update Now, one of Temple’s brief news broadcasts. I am now a member of Templar, where I interview diverse student organizations and teams and write stories for Temple’s yearbook! I will also be joining the powerlifting team soon!
Q: What is the coolest place you’ve ever visited?
A: The coolest place I’ve traveled to was Dubai, where I visited the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, and went sand-duning in the desert. I also studied abroad in London last summer; sightseeing and experiencing the nightlife weren’t the only highlights because, on the queen’s birthday, Harry and Meghan rode in a carriage and waved to us!
Q: Favorite social media platform and why?
A: I love using Twitter because it’s a great place to stay on top of not just memes and trends, but also the current news happening around the world. You can also stay up to date on what your favorite company is doing, which is great for networking.
Q: Dream job?
A: Honestly, my dream job is to be an actress. In reality, I’d love to be an editor or PR practitioner in the television, media, or beauty and makeup fields.
